King Ali's Tomb

In the days of Andiri Andirin, the wicked Portuguese

Who conquered the Maldives with ease,

King Ali Raskefanu was slain

By a fair cock-eyed man.

Raaveribey, the toddy tapper had seen the crime

And two waves break and form dry land, at the time,

This is where the Ziyaarath now stands

Off Malé’s Southwest strand.

Author’s Annotation:

"Two waves break and form dry land" seems to be the literal translation of a Maldivian idiom, meaning close proximity to the sea.

Ziyaarath means mausoleum.

King Ali was the sultanic Arasbic name of King Siri Audha Siyaaka Katthiri
